What Are the Best Flowering Shrubs for Minnesota Landscapes?

Blooms will add some color and more life to your outdoor space. You can use flowering shrubs to enhance the beauty of your yard and even increase the curb appeal of your home. However, not all kinds of shrubs can handle Minnesota weather conditions.

Mandarin Lights

Known for its vibrant orange blooms, mandarin lights bloom in early spring. It is also lightly fragrant and can grow six to eight feet tall and around four feet wide. This flowering shrub has an upright and rounded habit and becomes bronze in fall. 

Beautybush

Many outdoor living contractors recommend beauty bush for those with a lot of space in their landscape. This flowering bush can grow branches of at least 10 feet. During June, it produces tiny, attractive pink blooms. You can prune it to retain its size, but it may lose its natural form. 

Girard’s Fuschia

A hardy evergreen hybrid, girard’s fuschia is popular for its bright and beautiful flowers. Its dark green evergreen foliage becomes maroon during fall. This shrub needs part sun to part shade. It can grow up to three feet high and three to four feet wide.
